Samsung Printer Test Page
Samsung’s consumer lasers mostly have no display at all, which is why the whole troubleshooting routine usually hangs off one button held during power-up. That button, and the menu route for the machines that do have a screen, are recorded below.
Set scaling to 100%. Choose Actual Size in the print dialog, never Fit to page — scaling distorts every measurement on this sheet. The Download PDF button hands you that same sheet as a ready-made file, so there is no scaling decision to get wrong.
How to print the Samsung Printer Test Page
- Load plain white paper and set quality to Best or High.
- Set scaling to Actual Size or 100%, then print this sheet.
- Print the machine’s own report from the table above and keep it beside the sheet.
- Read status — toner life, page count, IP address — from the configuration report only.
- Judge density, fine lines and repeating defects on this sheet, where the patterns are drawn to expose them.
- Change one variable at a time and reprint the same file so that any difference is the change you made.
Built-in test page by model series
| Xpress M2020, M2070 and similar, no LCD | Hold Power until the status LED blinks slowly, then release |
| SL-M series, earlier branding | Hold Cancel for about five seconds |
| Xpress with an LCD | Menu → Report → Configuration → OK |
| ProXpress, CLP, CLX, MultiXpress | Menu → System Setup → Report → Configuration |
| Any Samsung through the Windows driver | Printer properties → General → Print Test Page |
Reading the result
| Configuration report and this sheet both look clean | Engine, driver and consumables are all working. Any remaining fault lives in the document or its print settings rather than the machine. |
| Solids print pale or streaked | Toner is nearly exhausted, or the drum is contaminated. Read the remaining-life figure on the configuration report, then swap the cartridge and reprint the identical sheet before blaming the drum. |
| Fine lines break up at small sizes | Density is too low to hold a narrow stroke. Raise the print density one step, reprint, and stop as soon as the lines hold — going further only wastes toner. |
| A repeating defect down the page | Measure the repeat. A distance matching the drum circumference points at the drum, one matching the fuser at the fuser, and one matching the transfer roller at the roller. |
| The button combination does nothing | The machine is asleep or a cover is ajar. Close everything, wait for the Ready indicator, then start again from a powered-off state with the hold sustained until the LED actually blinks. |
Also check
- Black and white page — The right first sheet for a mono Samsung laser, where density and text sharpness are the only things that can go wrong.
- Laser printer test page — Density, registration and fuser faults drawn specifically for toner machines rather than shared with inkjet assumptions.
- Gradient and banding page — A toner ramp separates a low cartridge from a weak transfer, which a solid block on the configuration report will always hide.
Related test pages
- B&W printer test page — Removing colour from the equation isolates density, toner coverage and fine detail problems.
- Laser printer test page — Laser faults live in density, fusing and geometry, and none of them involve nozzles. This sheet measures how evenly toner is laid down and whether it stays on the paper.
- Banding printer test page — Solid bars hide banding. Gradients expose it. This page prints both, side by side, for each channel.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print a configuration report on a Samsung Xpress with no screen?
Press and hold the Power button until the status LED starts blinking slowly, then release. The configuration report prints by itself. On earlier SL-M branding the same job is done by holding Cancel for about five seconds.
What is on the Samsung configuration report?
Model, firmware version, network details, total page count, toner level and a small print-quality block. It is the right page for consumables and network settings, and the wrong page for judging whether a gradient bands or fine text holds together.
Where do I find Configuration on a ProXpress or CLX?
Menu, then System Setup, then Report, then Configuration, then OK. Some firmwares put Report directly under Menu without the System Setup step, so if you reach a dead end, back up one level and look for Report on its own.
Why does my Samsung print a configuration report but not from my computer?
The machine is proven and the queue is not. Remove and re-add the printer, confirm the port points at the right address for a network machine, and reprint this sheet to verify the driver before reopening the printer.
Is a Samsung test page the same as a toner density test?
No. The report states the toner level the machine believes; this sheet shows whether that belief matches reality. A cartridge reading twenty per cent that still prints pale solids is exactly the mismatch a patterned sheet catches and a status page cannot.
